Introduction

Launchpad brings together software engineers, digital creatives and business people to solve industry challenges – taking on briefs from companies like Sony Interactive Entertainment and Hitachi. You'll gain vital business and entrepreneurship skills and learn when to apply them, potentially leaving as a director of a viable start-up with a full Master's degree.

Launchpad is a venture studio that is part funded by the European Regional Development Fund and Research England.

You will:

  • Receive a stipend for your first year
  • Collaborate with an industry partner with indentified demand
  • Build a network of industry connections

    What you'll learn

    You'll not only gain an MSc in Entrepreneurship, you'll be supported to emerge as a founder of a high-growth digital business. Launchpad is a business incubation and development programme, helping you grow your expertise in markets, customers, investors, and how a business works.

    You’ll put relevant business and management knowledge into practice, including finance, sales and marketing. Using reflective practice, you’ll explore project management techniques and build your leadership skills. And by looking into communication strategies in different media, you’ll get a better idea of your role in a team and develop your interpersonal skills.

    Backing up your expertise, you’ll research modern business and management issues and practices, and evaluate information, business areas and working methods. Finally, you’ll analyse, evaluate and apply creative ideas, so you can come up with original solutions to complex problems.

    How you'll learn

    You’ll attend study sessions and have full access to our academic support resources. There’ll also be opportunities to support and develop your business by working with other departments, like the Games Academy and the School of Communication.

    Assessment methods

    You’ll need to complete a series of academic assessments directly applied to your business. These include market research, a project plan and a business plan.

    Entry requirements

    You'll need to hold an undergraduate degree of 2:1 or above. Applicants should also have commercial experience in one or more of the following skill sets:

    - Business leadership, operations, and/or marketing

    - Software development

    - UI/UX and product design

    Launchpad start-ups require an understanding of the world of entrepreneurship and business. Our typical applicants should have a minimum of five years of business experience with evidence of rapid career progression. We also welcome applicants with experience of working for or running their own start-up or venture capital.

    If you are an international student, you will need a Student Route Visa and will need to submit additional documentation as part of your application. The following information will need to be included when you apply:

    Passport or birth certificate

    A copy of any existing visa if you already have permission to be in the UK

    Degree certificate/s or proof of other Level 3 (A level equivalent or above) qualifications

    English language test results (if you are not a native English language speaker)

    Accreditation of Prior Learning (APL) applicants using experience to apply should note there is a £200 application fee for entry with advanced standing or with exemption from specific modules or credit.

    Language requirements

    If English isn’t your first language, you'll need to demonstrate English language skills that are sufficiently developed for successful completion of your studies. We accept a range of recognised English language qualifications that are equivalent to the International English Language Testing System (IELTS) Academic minimum score of 6.5 overall, with a minimum of 6.0 in Reading, Writing, Speaking and Listening.

    Year 1

    You’ll receive £16,000 tax free (in the 2020/21 academic year), divided into monthly instalments. Your business costs are met, and your MSc fees are waived.

    Year 2

    During year 2, you'll be funded through the investment that you'll have raised towards the end of year 1.
    Tuition fees 2021-22

    Year 1

    You’ll receive stipend (amount to be confirmed) in the 2021/22 academic year, and your MSc fees are waived.
     

    Year 2

    During year 2, you'll be funded through the investment that you'll have raised towards the end of year 1.

    If you need to bring equipment or materials with you, these will be outlined in your Welcome Letter.
