Online Creative Events Management students gather in London for three days of innovative events

Falmouth’s MA Creative Events Management (Online) cohort recently got the chance to swap their screens for a trip to London, where the students gathered for three days of inspiration, industry immersion and face-to-face connection while getting the opportunity to network with industry changemakers.
As a programme delivered virtually, this in-person trip offered a chance for students to build meaningful relationships while experiencing live events first-hand. The trip is one that has given the students the chance to engage directly with professionals who are shaping the future of the industry while building their events management skillset.
On their first day the students attended the Green Events & Innovations Conference, an event organised by A Greener Future, which brought together thought leaders, sustainability pioneers and global event professionals for an inspiring event exploring the industry’s future.
The conference explored the ways the industry can reduce its environmental impact while creating more responsible, future-focused experiences. As attendees of the event, the students had the opportunity to strengthen their understanding of the latest sustainable event innovations while networking.
For student Ewilla Nunes De Andrade Grolimund, the conference was the highlight of the trip. “The range and quality of topics were excellent; it was honestly difficult to choose which sessions to attend because there were so many relevant discussions happening at the same time”, Ewilla told us. “It was a really valuable experience and I’m genuinely grateful for all the support we had while on the trip.”
The second day of the trip took students to London’s Museum of Brands, a space dedicated to consumer culture, branding and marketing history. Here, the students participated in an interactive workshop focused on customer profiling; they explored alternative customer markets and created visual posters that compared customer needs and motivations. The exercise was a collaborative and engaging way for the students to deepen their understanding of audience segmentation and brand positioning.
The exercise was followed by a visit to the museum’s immersive exhibits, where students got to trace the evolution of brands and consumer behaviour over decades.
The final day of the trip took the group to Excel London to take part in the International Confex event and the Event Production Show, both of which offered an exciting opportunity for students to experience the scale and diversity of the events industry under one roof. From attending keynote sessions by leading event professionals, and learning about logistics, design and technical innovation, to participating in student-focused sessions delivered by the Association for Events Management Education (AEME), the event allowed students to network and share their insights from different sessions and conversations.
The three days reinforced peer learning in real time and offered a fantastic in-person opportunity for the students to not only meet and work with one another but learn from those leading the field.
Martin Jared-Davis, a student who attended the trip, shared how much they enjoyed the experience: “Having this as a face-to-face event enabled me to meet, talk with and get to know my fellow students as individuals. This is invaluable and, as potential future leaders in the industry, perfect to have the opportunity to get to know each other at an early stage.”
Martin added: “This event enabled me not only to learn from people in industry as part of the course but has also helped me make valuable connections with them both in developing my professional career and obtaining some great deals for my own events I run.”
Ewilla Nunes De Andrade Grolimund shared: “I truly appreciated how well organised and thoughtful the London trip was. From the beginning, everything felt carefully planned and it was a very welcoming and comfortable atmosphere for all of us.”
