Creative Events Management students shine at Cornwall Tourism Awards
20 November 2025
Five final-year Creative Events Management BA(Hons) students recently supported the operations and social media marketing for the annual Cornwall Tourism Awards at Truro Cathedral. The organisers praised the students for their professionalism and adaptability throughout the high-profile, black-tie event.
The Cornwall Tourism Awards celebrate Cornwall’s thriving local businesses, with awards given to restaurants, attractions, hotels, spas and more in recognition of the achievements and hard work within the tourism industry.
As one of the most anticipated days in the calendar year for Cornish businesses, it presented an exciting opportunity for the Creative Events Management BA students to be a part of a real-world industry experience, capturing social content while enhancing their learning, confidence and employability. The students were a key part of the evening, assisting with the preparation of the day, registering guests on arrival, handing out trophies to the award winners and sharing the winners on the Awards’ social pages.
Reflecting on the event, one student commented: “The awards evening was such an incredibly useful experience at one of Cornwall’s most prestigious venues. We really had to demonstrate our teamwork efficiency and cope with lots of questions, but it has boosted my confidence and will strengthen my final-year professional portfolio.”
Course Leader Matt Kirby added: “This opportunity was created by Senior Lecturer Natalie Semley, who is Chair of the Awards’ Judging Panel. We’re also grateful to Robin Barker at Services for Tourism, for welcoming our involvement. Our industry-connected teaching team are constantly creating work experiences and opening invaluable doors for our students which is such a valuable asset to our students’ learning here at The Guardian’s No. 1 university for tourism, hospitality and events.”
