English Language Requirements

If English isn't your first language, we'll need to see evidence that you meet our minimum English language requirements. It's important to ensure that you're fully prepared for the rigours of academic study, and the level of competence required depends on what level of study you're applying to join. Applicants can demonstrate this through a satisfactory level of achievement in a variety of tests and exams.

Here are some examples of common tests we have accepted:

Common European Framework Study level IELTS AcademicOther international tests of English language
B2Undergraduate courses

6.0 overall

(minimum 5.5 in each skill)
  • Cambridge English scale: 169
  • Pearson Academic 55 (minimum 51 in all four components)
  • IGCSE Grade C or above
  • Singapore Cambridge O-Level English Grade C
  • International Baccalaureate English (Min Grade 5 standard or Grade 4 higher level
C2Postgraduate courses

6.5 overall

 (minimum 6.0 in each skill)
  • Cambridge English Scale: 176
  • Pearson Academic 60 (with minimum 55 in all four components)
  • Singapore Cambridge O-Level English Grade C

We’d recommend getting in touch with us to talk through your individual circumstances; the list above is not definitive and we’ll work with you to establish how you can meet our requirements.

Certain English tests (including IELTS and Pearson Academic) must have been taken within the last two years prior to the start date of the course. Applicants whose tests fall outside this timescale will either need to demonstrate how they have kept their English current since the date of the test or retake a suitable English language test. We’ll let you know if this applies to you.
