Falmouth University ranked top five in the south west
13 July 2026
Falmouth University has been ranked as one of the top five universities in the south west in the latest edition of The Complete University Guide's University League Tables 2027.
Falmouth University has been ranked 4th in the region in the annual review, and joins University of Bath, University of Bristol and University of Exeter as one of the top five universities in the south west.
This prestigious accolade sees Falmouth as the only specialist creative university ranked so highly in the region. With such a strong focus on the transformative powers of creativity in arts, culture and technology, Falmouth is uniquely placed as an anchor institution in Cornwall and the wider region.
One of the areas that influenced the 2027 rankings was Research Quality, with Falmouth scoring among the highest in the south west region.
This is a reflection of Falmouth's investment and development in research and knowledge exchange, with 100% of Falmouth University’s research impact case studies and 63.4% of its research outputs rated as being world-leading or internationally excellent (4* and 3*) in the most recent Research Excellence Framework 2021 (REF2021).
Falmouth has been featured on The Good University Guide for several years, and during that time has been praised for its welcoming community, practice-focused teaching and dynamic social life enjoyed by students.
The town of Falmouth is frequently ranked as one of the best places to live in the UK, with a dynamic social life and a diverse and inclusive community.
This year's result comes after an improving trend in the national rankings for Falmouth, increasing five places to 65th out of 130 UK universities over the last five years, as Falmouth continues to invest in a high quality student experience, both on campus and online.
