The government-backed scheme supports people up to the age of 60, so they can access flexible higher education.

Falmouth University will be supporting the lifelong development of skills that underpin career growth by becoming an official provider of the government's Lifelong Learning Entitlement.

From January 2027, the scheme will provide all new learners with a tuition fee loan entitlement equivalent to four years of post-18 education, up to the age of 60, so they can access flexible higher education to help upskill and retrain. This is especially key for helping people remain employable in rapidly changing industries in Cornwall and beyond.

The Government’s Lifelong Learning Entitlement (LLE) scheme enables people to study individual modules as well as undertake a standard three- or four-year degree all at once. By supporting flexible learning at their own pace, individuals can fit studies around their working and family lives throughout their career.

Areas of learning available at Falmouth include computing, robotics and architecture. These are all aligned to the priority skills needs and the government's industrial strategy.

The availability of LLE at Falmouth University complements a number of initiatives that reflect Falmouth's long-standing civic commitment to supporting and creating new opportunities for local people to progress in their careers and contribute to Cornwall's economic and cultural future.

Last month, the university announced the Cornish Bursary - an initiative that enables more people to access online higher education and supports a stronger future for Cornwall and its communities.

The bursary offers a non-means-tested 30% tuition fee discount on all online master's courses for residents of Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly, and is not dependent on any other qualifying factors.

There is also an expanding number of short courses available to individuals through Falmouth's Academy of Continuing Education (ACE) covering CPD, leisure and executive courses. We also work with businesses such as A&P Falmouth to develop bespoke training packages for staff, from executive level through to entire departments.
