Introduction to Game Development

In this two part session you will learn about who makes games and how they make them.

We begin by exploring the different roles within a core development team within the games industry and discuss other roles that support the production of video games. Expanding on this you will then learn how such varied teams work together to create the games you know and love.

Introduction to Unity: Lets make a Level

Opening Unity Editor we'll get comfortable with the interface and begin learning how to use the Tile Palette to build our first level.

Gameplay Scripting in Unity

We’ll explore how we add Gameplay to our level from the previous workshop. This will allow us to create a core gameplay loop and then go on to create our first game like project.

Building Your Game

We’ll finish the day by using the new knowledge we’ve gained througout the day to create a small playable game that we can iterate upon the following day.

Creating and Importing Assets

We'll use Pixelart.com to follow along creating a simple Sprite. Then We'll learn how to import it into Unity Engine and get it moving around in the scene.

Making a Menu

In this short workshop we'll make our main menu that every player will see when they start the game. Once we've done this we'll explore how we change the way levels load in our game and how we connect the levels together.

Creating your Final Build

In our final session we'll use what we've learned throughout the days to create our final game. Our staff will be on hand to support you creating new scripts or assets to add to your game before we export the game and put it onto a USB stick to take home.
