Script to Screen

This is an outline of timings to expect for the course.  Each day includes 5 hours of taught workshops, and time to socialise with fellow students during supervised breaks.  

Day 1

9am - 9.30am: Arrival, welcome and sign-in  

9.45am: Groups will be taken to workshop locations (up to a 10-min walk across campus)  

10am – 12.30pm: Morning workshop – Studio Film Shoot 

12.30pm: Lunch break 

1.15 – 3.45pm: Afternoon workshop – Picture Edit  

3.45pm: Groups will be collected from workshop locations  

4pm: Close, sign-out and collection  

Day 2

9am - 9.30am: Arrival 

9.30am: Groups will be taken to workshop locations (up to a 10-min walk across campus)  

10am – 12.30pm: Morning workshop – Audio Postproduction 

12.30pm: Lunch break  

1.15 – 3.30pm: Afternoon workshop – Colour Grade and finishing touches 

3.30pm: Final film screening 

3.45pm: Groups will be collected from workshop locations  

4pm: Close, sign-out and collection  

Workshops on this course will cover the following topics:   

Camera and Lighting

Based in a production studio, we’ll experiment with the technical skills required for cameras and lighting, using industry-standard equipment. You’ll have a chance to get hands-on guided by our experienced staff.  

Edit workshop

Moving to our purpose-built postproduction space, you will edit the footage you shot earlier using Adobe Premiere software.  

Sound Acquisition and Foley

We’ll be based in our specialist Foley Suite and Dubbing Theatre control room for this workshop in the afternoon.  Here you’ll re-record sound effects to be used in the film  in postproduction. We will work together to bring the soundtrack of your film towards the “final mix” stage, where every sound is clean and balanced.  

Screening

The second day will conclude with a screening of short films that have been made within the School of Film and Television at our in-house 128-seat cinema.  

Expect a hands-on day that will give you practical training whilst meeting professionals in the industry and like-minded individuals. The day will combine structured learning with having fun in a supportive and supervised environment. This one-day course is structured with 5 full hours of teaching, with breaks for lunch and refreshments. 

Workshops are led by our experienced teaching staff at Falmouth, with all staff DBS checked. The day is designed to give you a taste of what it’s like to study at Falmouth University, with all workshops based on campus in our fantastic teaching facilities.  

Please ensure you are wearing closed toe shoes or trainers (e.g. no flip flops or sandals).

You may wish to bring a reusable water bottle with you, and anything else you need to feel comfortable through the day.

Please note: we advise that phones or other personal possessions are not brought to the course, any possessions brought with you are your responsibility and Falmouth University will not be liable for any loss or damage.

All equipment and materials you will need are included in the course fee, together with refreshments and lunch (all dietary requirements catered for).

​This course is taught in our fantastic Film and Television facilities on our Penryn campus.

We will provide further information in your course joining email after your place has been confirmed. 

​​You will leave with a certificate of completion, available when you finish the day and sign out. 

This course is for 14 – 17 year olds only, and is suitable for all experience levels with no pre-requisite knowledge required.  

​​A parent or guardian must sign 14 and 15 year olds in and out, and be present for drop off and pick up.  If 16 and 17 year olds wish to sign themselves in and out then we will require written consent emailed to futurestudies@falmouth.ac.uk in advance of the course.  

Drop off is from 9am – 9.30am, pick up is at 4pm.
