Student collaboration is a large aspect of the culture at Falmouth University and it’s one of the reasons I ended up choosing to study here. In this article, I’ll be reflecting on my personal experience of collaborating with students from across the University and how I've benefitted from this experience.

Before joining Falmouth University, I had always enjoyed working with artists of different fields. Even if they didn’t work in film, like I did, their different creative perspectives or their unique skillsets always managed to elevate my work to another level. Therefore, I knew I wanted to find a similar environment within my university. I had heard from other students and sources that Falmouth had an exceptionally collaborative spirit which played a large part in deciding to study here.

Getting to collaborate like this has allowed me to expand what’s possible in my work and create better and more exciting things!

I’m glad to say that I have not been disappointed. Through my projects, I’ve had the opportunity to work with students from a wide range of courses, from Acting and Music to ESports & Livestreaming. One of the most valuable aspects of this cross-course collaboration is the shared access to Falmouth’s facilities, meaning that students can be inducted on equipment from any department. Even though I’m a Film student, I have been trained on how to use facilities such as the photography darkroom or the metal workshop.

Getting to collaborate like this has allowed me to expand what’s possible in my work exponentially and create better and more exciting things! It’s also been great for networking and building connections, since I now have a wide web of people I can contact if needed.

During my first year on the Film course, I had the opportunity to work on a third-year film project as a producer, helping with fundraising and other tasks. To help fundraise for the film, I collaborated with students from the Esports & Livestreaming course to organise a large livestreamed fundraising event that resulted in us raising half of our entire budget! Thanks to this experience, I became much more aware and open to cross-disciplinary collaboration and from that point forward, I have contacted and worked with students from a wide range of courses.

I hope that this blog proves useful in answering any questions you might have about the collaborative aspect of Falmouth University, and if you decide to join us here, I hope you find our community just as collaborative and welcoming as it has been for me.
