BA(Hons) English with Media Studies*
A rising star in the literary world, since graduating in 2004 Chelsey has been published in numerous short story journals and magazines. In 2010 she won a coveted place on the University of East Anglia MA Creative Writing course where an extract from her novel won the Curtis Brown Award. She went on to win a 2011 Arvon/Jerwood mentorship place and secured funding from the Arts Council to complete her first novel, Infinite Sky, published by Simon & Schuster in 2013 as part of a two-book deal. It was published to excellent reviews in the national press, and has been nominated for multiple awards, including the Branford Boase and the Carnegie Medal.
"I really, really enjoyed the course at Falmouth. It changed the way I saw the world and opened my mind completely. When I talked to friends on other courses I always felt like mine was a bit exciting and fresh. After Falmouth I got quite involved with a magazine that was set up here called Stranger magazine. Once you see your work in print it's quite a big barrier you have broken down. It's kind of addictive and you work a lot harder because you want to have the same feeling again. I'm writing fiction full-time now, which is what I've always wanted to do."
