Dan Simpkins graduated from BA(Hons) Film in 2018.
Dan Simpkins is an award-winning documentary filmmaker and director of photography whose work has been showcased at BAFTA and BIFA qualifying festivals, including LSFF, Aesthetica, and Encounters.
“After university, I spent five years working as a camera technician at some of London’s leading independent camera rental companies, where I developed my technical knowledge while continuing to shoot documentaries and short films on weekends.
“I later left my role to work full-time on the independent documentary The Lost Boys of Carbis Bay, which went on to win Best Adventure and Exploration Film at Kendal Mountain Festival. Alongside collaborator and fellow Falmouth alumni Angus Breton, I self-distributed the film across more than 40 cinema screenings, including a 14-date sold-out Q&A tour. Since completing the film, I’ve continued working as a freelance director of photography and documentary filmmaker.”
How did Falmouth shape you?
“Falmouth played a huge role in shaping my career in the film industry, and their continued support still means a great deal to me today. The Lost Boys of Carbis Bay would not have been possible without that support.”
