Josh Bainbridge
Academy Award-winning Visual Effects Specialist
Josh Bainbridge graduated from BA(Hons) Animation & Visual Effects at Falmouth in 2014. This course has since separated into the BA(Hons) Animation and BA(Hons) Post Production & Visual Effects courses.
Josh's career at Framestore began with a hands-on role in production, where he worked on areas including shader development. He later moved into a broader technology role, becoming a software architect before taking on leadership roles across rendering and lighting technologies.
In 2026, Josh received a Scientific and Technical Academy Award through his work at Framestore. The layered shading technology he helped create has been used across more than 100 film and television productions, and has contributed to titles including Guardians of the Galaxy, Blade Runner 2049, Barbie, Wicked and Paddington in Peru.
What did you learn at Falmouth that is important to you today?
“The most important skill I learned at Falmouth was communication. We build great things together, and communicating is at the core of that collaboration. Falmouth was a great place to take your first steps working this way. A safe space to try, sometimes fail and grow.”
