Course details

This is a two-day intensive and fun introduction to custom creative mask making in thermo-plastic, based in our well-equipped 3d casting and mouldmaking workshop.  We’ll teach you to design, sculpt, and form a detailed mask made from Worbla and other thermo-formed materials like foams, and you’ll learn how to fit it perfectly to the shape of your face.

We’ll send out information prior to the start of the course with enough time for you to review it and come up with an idea that you’d like to make.

We’ll then start the course with a discussion of your ideas and put a plan together to bring them to life. There will be plenty of example masks to look through at this stage, and we’ll also have enough ideas ready for you if you don’t wish to bring your own plan for a mask.

You’ll then learn the skills you need via a series of hands-on practical workshops as you develop the basics for your mask.

We’ll be using Worbla to create our masks, which is a zero-waste non-toxic thermoplastic often used in cosplay and sculpture. It’s an ideal starting material to learn the practical skills needed for detailed physical making.

Once the shape of your mask is complete, we’ll guide you to develop your creative ideas as we add detail to your mask. Finally, we’ll work with Gesso to paint your mask, building it up in layers that can be sanded back.

You’ll take your unique custom mask home with you at the end of the course.

This course includes tea and coffee each day, along with all materials you’ll need. Please bring a packed lunch with you.
