The Professional Placement programme is an excellent way to tap into our student talent and support early career development. Students on the placement year are required to complete a minimum of 24 weeks working in a professional context, as part of a businesses or organisation. For international students with a student visa, the maximum duration is 36 weeks.

Students will undertake their placement between their second and final year of study. Placements must be full-time and only paid opportunities will be advertised. Most placement providers recruit between November and March of each year for a start date in September although alternative dates can be accommodated.

Please reach out to the Employability Team to learn more about recruiting placement year students, and ways to introduce placement year experiences within your business or organisation.

Third party enquirers such as employers, agencies and embassies must verify attendance and awards from our university with Prospects Hedd. A Hedd verification confirms the candidate’s name, qualification type, course name, year of award, classification obtained and dates of attendance.

The Micro-internship Scheme 2025/26

Funding is available to support creative internships within your organisation.

The Micro-internship scheme offers 100 internships each year providing students with valuable industry experience in readiness for life after University!

We're inviting organisations, based within the UK, to partner with us to create exciting opportunities for our students to work on short or micro (30 hour), graduate-level projects.

Points to note:

  • Funding is prioritised to support students who may face barriers to engagement.
  • Internships are to be completed within 2-6 weeks.
  • Students will be paid at the National Living Wage or above.

  • Organisations can recruit up to 3 student interns (depending on funding availability)
  • Internships will be extra-curricular and, therefore, in addition to academic commitments for students.
  • Academic sign-off will be part of the student recruitment process.
  • Internships can be remote, face-to-face or hybrid.
  • Support will be provided by the Employability Team to enable a competitive student recruitment process.
  • Opportunities will be targeted towards students in their final years of study.
  • Employer liability insurance will need to be in place before the micro-internship can begin.
  • Micro-internships should not be time critical, students will need to prioritise academic commitments, as such some flexibility is required.

A financial contribution towards the internship will be required from the host organisation. Please see table of funding below for current rates:

Type of organisation Cost to host organisation
Charity/Not for profit organisation £95
Micro-business (up to 9 employees) £115
SME (10-249 employees) £170
Large (250+ employees) £270

You can use our simple online form to tell us about your proposal and we'll get in touch with more information about the scheme and the funding available.
