If you’re an aspiring storyteller with a keen interest in digital platforms, then you may be thinking about the different ways to forge a career in the fast-paced media industry.  

Here at Falmouth, our multidisciplinary School of Communication offers a variety of specialist degrees across media, content creation, marketing and journalism – all centred around the craft of impactful digital storytelling.  

Working collaboratively in professional standard facilities and on industry-aligned briefs, all undergraduate degrees in the department help you to develop core skills and knowledge in writing and storytelling, creative problem solving, brand creation and audience behaviour. But there are some key differences which equip students to master different types of technology, build specific skills and knowledge and become experts in their chosen areas.

Content Creation BA(Hons)

This course is all about producing impactful content for the digital platforms that shape our lives. To do that you’ll develop a sophisticated understanding of multiplatform media and build a skillset which means you’re able to adapt to dramatic shifts in platform formats and audience behaviours, plus tap into the power of trends and algorithms to maximise your reach. This course is for you if you’re interested in becoming a freelance digital content creator, a social media producer or an in-house digital content specialist.

Creative Advertising BA(Hons)  

This Chartered Institute of Marketing (CIM) accredited course will help you become an imaginative and media-savvy advertising professional. Blending advertising theory with practical design sessions, on this course you’ll graduate with a standout portfolio of work to showcase your ideas and strategic thinking across advertising, brand strategy and campaign delivery. This course is for you if you're an aspiring art director, advertising account executive or digital designer.

Marketing Communications BA(Hons)  

Also accredited by the Chartered Institute of Marketing (CIM), this course helps you to master the fundamentals that underpin any great marketing campaign, while gaining the strategic planning skills required to forge an ethical, sustainable marketing practice.  

Effective campaigns are all about staying ahead of the competition – and marketing technology itself. Through industry-aligned briefs, guest lectures and workshops, you will learn about the blend of creativity and science underpinning impactful and effective marketing and communications campaigns. On this course, you’ll learn how to thrive within the fast-paced digital industry. This course is for you if you want to go into a marketing role in an agency or in-house team.

Media & Communication BA(Hons)  

This degree is for practical creatives with a hunger to leverage different technologies to amplify their storytelling. Blending creativity, strategy and data, you’ll use digital insight to design bold, purposeful media campaigns and will explore how digital media shapes society, culture and identity.  

Gaining hands-on experience with industry tools such as Adobe Creative Suite, Figma and Miro, you’ll learn to prototype, design and present digital content across platforms - from interactive campaigns and social media storytelling to user experience (UX), writing and visual communication. This course is for you if you're interested in becoming a communications executive, social media officer or media planner.

Media & Journalism BA(Hons)  

If you love finding out about the world around you and telling entertaining stories which further our understanding of it, this course is for you. Joining a collaborative newsroom environment, you’ll work on industry-aligned briefs to produce newspapers, websites, broadcast programming and social media content with the power to shift the dial – sharpening your multimedia skills across photography, video and audio.  

While crafting compelling stories, you’ll deepen your understanding of documentary and longform journalism; exploring how generative AI and other digital tools are shaping our understanding of the media environment. This course is for you if you're keen to become a multimedia reporter, content producer, photojournalist or production researcher.

Media Production BA(Hons)  

As a Media Production student, you will have an interest in using media of all kinds to tell stories or to promote a product or cause. You might already have produced videos, articles or magazine designs as part of your studies or shown a flare experimenting with audiovisual content for your own social media channels.  

Joining this course will equip you with a solid set of technical production tools and the flair to turn your creative vision into compelling commercial content. You’ll learn how to pitch, plan and deliver your ideas, graduating as a flexible communicator able to make, edit and produce content. This course is for you if you want to launch a career as a production coordinator, videographer or podcast producer.
