Eligible students will be contacted by email on Monday 24 February 2020 with a link to book your place for your ceremony. Registration will close at midnight on Sunday 31 May 2020.
You must complete the booking process by the deadline. You will not be able to attend your ceremony if you do not meet this deadline.
Do not wait for confirmation that you have successfully completed your studies. If, subsequently, you do not pass your course, your place at Graduation will be cancelled. You will then need to seek a refund for your gown hire from Ede & Ravenscroft.
Students do not need a ticket for themselves.
You can request up to two free guest tickets. However, you must complete the online registration task outlined in your invitation email by Sunday 31st May 2020 to receive them. We cannot accept requests via email.
Children are welcome to attend, although those that wish to can make use of the live streaming venues if they feel their children may become restless during the ceremony. Children under the age of two may be seated on guests' laps and do not require a ticket.
Children over the age of two attending the ceremony must have a guest ticket.
Extra guest tickets
Extra guest tickets will go on sale Monday 8 June 2020 at 9am. They are allocated on a first come first served basis and will cost £10 each. Guests will not be allowed entry to the Hall without a ticket, but the ceremony will be live streamed to venues on campus, and additional guests are free to join the post-ceremony reception.
Please note that only students who have registered/confirmed attendance at graduation will be notified by email when this will be made available. These are subject to availability and there is no guarantee that you will receive more than two guest tickets.
We regret that we are unable to provide refunds for additional guest tickets. We strongly advise against making expensive travel arrangements for guests on the expectation of extra tickets.
How to obtain your extra tickets
- Extra guest tickets can only be purchased through Ede & Ravenscroft
- Wait until your ticket sale opens, then log into your Ede & Ravenscroft account.
- Enter your University username and password when prompted.
- Click on the 'My Ceremony' option at the top of the page and it will take you to the online graduation registration page.
- At the bottom of the page click on 'Extra Guest Ticket' and it will take you to the task.
- Please ensure that you have a valid debit or credit card as these are the only acceptable payment methods.
- You will receive a confirmation email when you complete the task.
Standby tickets may become available on the day. If you would like to apply for a standby ticket please ask at registration on the day when you register for your ceremony.
In the event of not having a seat in the ceremony you will still be able to watch the ceremony via our live streaming on campus. Event staff will be able to direct you to the venue.
To avoid disappointment, please note that having a Standby ticket does not guarantee that you have a seat in the hall.
Hiring your gown
Gowns, hoods and hats must be ordered online via the Ede & Ravenscroft website
Ede & Ravenscroft have a deadline for ordering gowns of ten days before the ceremony. You will be prompted to do this when you book to attend graduation.
- We welcome national dress for international students, underneath your cap and gown.
- Jeans, t-shirts and other casual attire are not considered appropriate for graduation ceremonies.
- Please bring safety pins and hair grips with you to help keep your hood and hat in place.
When booking your gown please have the following details ready:
- Hat size (circumference of your head taken just above your ears)
- Chest/Waist measurements
- Date and time of your ceremony
Accessibility and special requirements
You will be asked about this as part of your booking and we will allocate a suitable space for you in the halls with your fellow graduands. We may contact you ahead of the day to discuss in more detail. The entrance and exit to the stage is via a ramp, so is accessible for everyone.
Once you have registered please email the Graduation team at firstname.lastname@example.org if you have any special requirements that you would like to discuss.
Dedicated parking for holders of special permits and blue badges are available, subject to availability. However, buses are operating across the campus, from the car parks to registration throughout the graduation period, and are all wheel chair friendly.
BSL interpreters are only available upon request. Please let us know when you book if you need BSL interpreters at the ceremony and if you or your guests need to be seated in clear sight of them.
Induction loop system - The BIC is able to supply additional equipment to anyone who is deaf or hard of hearing in order to make use of their induction loop system. Please let us know when you book if you or your guests need to use this service.
Assistance dogs only are permitted, but please let us know when booking if you or your guests will be bringing an assistance dog with you so we can allocate you suitable seating. Water for assistance dogs is available from the First Aid Room.
Guest visa applications
If your guests require a visa to attend your graduation ceremony you may request a 'graduation invitation' letter. You will need to provide the full names of all your guests. Please note that by issuing this letter, the University does not guarantee that all guests will receive a guest ticket for your ceremony. We only guarantee two tickets per graduand.

a) Post or Air Mail (if outside the UK) – free of charge, please take the delivery time into account
b) Collect – please give name of the person collecting (we will tell you when it is ready for collection)

When you call to make your booking ask about special graduation rates as some of the individual hotels have these offers.

Only assistance animals are permitted inside the Hall and on campus during graduation week. Please let us know when booking if you or your guests will be bringing an assistance dog with you.
Please do not bring any other dogs or pets on campus during graduation. We reserve the right to ask you to remove the pet from the event
If you cannot attend you will graduate in absentia. You will not be able to attend a ceremony at a future date.
Student Administration will post your Degree Certificate to you by the end of August 2019. Please ensure that you have updated your student record with your full legal name and your correspondence address.
