5 reasons to study at Falmouth University as a mature student
Returning to education is a big decision, especially if you’re balancing work, family or other commitments. At Falmouth University, we’re proud to support mature students at every stage of their journey, from application through to graduation.
Here are five reasons why Falmouth could be the right place for you.
1. Flexible study options
We understand that mature students often need to fit their studies around work, family or caring responsibilities. That’s why many of our courses offer flexible study options to allow students to be able to balance their education around existing life commitments.
For ultimate flexibility, our online undergraduate and postgraduate degrees can be studied part-time, making it easier to balance your degree with existing commitments. Our online courses have been designed to be studied 100% remotely, giving you the freedom to access your learning anytime, anywhere.
2. Bespoke application support
If you've been out of education for some time, the university application process can feel daunting. To make the applying to university as stress-free as possible, we offer tailored application support specifically for mature students.
You’ll have access to bespoke webinars covering key parts of the application process, including writing a personal statement, putting together a portfolio or preparing for an audition. Our experienced teams are on hand to guide you, answer questions and help you present your skills and experience with confidence.
3. Comprehensive student support
Many mature students feel nervous about returning to study and managing academic life alongside other responsibilities. From the outset, our Student Support team is here to make your return to education as smooth and successful as possible.
Once you start your studies, you’ll be assigned a Personal Tutor who can answer any course-related queries. Our dedicated Academic Skills team can also help you to sharpen your study skills, including research, writing and referencing.
If you need a little extra support, our Wellbeing team offers confidential sessions where they can support with anxiety, stress or other mental health concerns. You’ll also have access to free, confidential mental health support 24 hours a day through our partner service, Spectrum Life.
4. A welcoming and inclusive community
Falmouth is home to a diverse, friendly and inclusive student community. Students from different backgrounds, cultures and countries come together through a shared passion for creativity and collaboration.
Across our courses, you’ll be encouraged to work collaboratively on projects and connect with students from other disciplines, helping you to expand your network and build lasting connections. As we share our Penryn Campus with the University of Exeter you’ll also benefit from being part of a wider academic community.
Our joint Students’ Union runs around 120 clubs and societies, alongside a Mature Students’ Network where you can connect with others who understand the unique experiences of returning to education later in life.
5. An inspiring location
Falmouth is a fun, friendly place to live and is consistently ranked as one of the safest university settings in the UK. If you’re based on campus, you’ll be at the heart of Cornwall’s creative scene, with access to outstanding facilities and dynamic learning environments.
Cornwall has long attracted artists, writers, entrepreneurs and innovators. Today, it offers a vibrant mix of independent cafés and bars, galleries, festivals, shops and a thriving live music and arts scene – all set against a backdrop of beautiful coastlines and landscapes.
Whether you’re looking to change career, develop your creative practice or fulfil a long-held ambition, Falmouth University offers the support, flexibility and community to help you flourish as a mature student.
