Hi, I'm Kat. I'm a second year Theatre & Performance student. And today I'm going to show you how to use the bus to travel from Penryn Campus, that's where we are now, to Falmouth. So come with me!
Travelling by bus
If you are on Penryn Campus, your main bus stop is very close to Glasney Lodge. The bus stop is located near the campus reception and campus shop.
Before you leave, you can check your journey on one of the two apps that I use. One is the First Bus app and the other one is Transport for Cornwall. These apps will let you check live bus times and buy tickets. You can choose between single tickets, day passes or weekly passes depending on how much you will be travelling.
We hop on the bus at Penryn Campus and the ride takes us past a bunch of useful places. First, you will see the train station near Penryn town, and this will be handy if you want to combine train and bus travel or if you just want to use the train.
Then we will go through Penryn town itself. There's a lot of cute coffee shops around so you should come. One of the student accommodation options that is in Penryn is The Sidings. So, if you live in The Sidings, Penryn will be your local town.
After that you will see bigger shops like Lidl and Sainsbury's If you need to get any groceries. There is a bus stop here, just in front of Lidl. If you need to go to do your shopping, this is your stop.
Or, you can also stop at McDonald's and Burger King if you want to. If you're heading to Falmouth Campus, you will want to stop at Killigrew Street. That's the nearest stop to Falmouth Campus and it's just a 10 minutes walk to get there.
But if you go all the way into Falmouth town, the final main stop on the bus is The Moor. Around The Moor, you will find plenty of cafes, shops, and it's a great central point to explore.
So we are at The Moor and it's not just about travelling between Penryn and Falmouth, from either campus or from The Moor. You can also take buses to a lot of other places in Cornwall like Penzance, Redruth or Truro.
So the whole trip from one campus to another takes around 20 to 25 minutes.
Cycling between campuses
If buses aren't your thing then you can cycle between Penryn and Falmouth campuses. There are bike racks on campus and Beryl Bikes that you can hire.
Travelling by train
If you wanted to get the train, you can walk from Penryn Campus to Penryn train station and then simply hop off at Falmouth town station and head on down to Falmouth Campus from here.
Final tips
- Always check the bus apps before you leave in case times have changed.
- If you are travelling often, a weekly or day pass can save you money but if not just use the tap on and tap off for short journeys.
- Remember, any bus route starting with a U will take you to Penryn Campus. So keep an eye out for those.
That's it. Thanks for joining me in this journey. Well, see you on the next video.
