BSc(Hons) Robotics graduate Ana Zaikina built on previous work with an escape room company by exploring the overlap between robotics and immersive environments. Her work was spotted at the Games Expo industry day by a Cornwall escape room business, which wanted to buy it.
An international student, Anna says Falmouth stood out even before she arrived, thanks to a positive experience with the applications team throughout the process. She also found that the robotics lab became a hub for cross-disciplinary collaboration, with fashion and photography students keen to get involved with her work.
"My name is Anna and I'm a third year on the robotics course.
"I had done some previous work with an escape room company, and I became really interested in that overlap of robotics in that environment. People come into the robotics lab, like fashion students, photography students, and they're like, 'Hey, what is this about? This is so interesting. Can I be a part of this?' Collaboration has just been absolutely wonderful. I love Falmouth.
"The environment is great, and outside of uni, there's just so much to do. Because it's such a student town in a way, there's so many events put on. There's a great music scene.
"The Games Expo has every student's work from all three years during the industry day. That is how I got to working with escape rooms in Cornwall. He saw my work and he wanted to buy it off me. It's a great place to showcase your work and to see what other people are up to and network where you can.
"I am an international student. Falmouth was really wonderful with getting back to me on things and if that support is that good online, they must be great, and they were."
