You never know where an idea that could change the world is going to come from. For Sustainable Product Design student, Charles Clarke, it came while at university.

Charles told us: "I’ve managed to create something from waste that could be beautiful. It’s an exciting moment – I really feel my career is being kick-started right now. My product – a light – is currently in development stage and my university tutors have been really encouraging. My time at Falmouth has been life-changing.”

Working alongside the Eden Project and lighting designer superstar (and former Falmouth student), Tom Raffield, Charles is using off-cuts of wood to create his own innovative lighting solutions - some of which are set to be used in the Eden Project’s new, sustainably designed hotel.

Charles added: “Sustainability is absolutely integral to the course; it’s been at the core of everything we do from day one. I’ve learned a lot about materials and it’s made me realise as a designer how things need to change. On a personal level, it has made me see that we could all make a difference – it’s up to people like us to change the minds of others.”
