A Student Ambassador is a paid role where you represent what it is to be a student at Falmouth University. I’ve been an ambassador for the past two years and I have loved it! Here are 5 reasons why you should consider becoming a student ambassador:
Flexible Working
The first reason to become a Student Ambassador is because it gives you the opportunity to make some money alongside your studies, whilst also giving you complete control over when you work. Ambassadors can view and sign up for available shifts through our online portal which means you can tailor your shifts to fit around your uni and social calendar. And let’s be honest, most uni students are busy with course work and don’t have time to commit to a typical job with regular hours.
Meet New People
Another reason to become an ambassador is you will get to meet loads of new people, from colleagues to members of the public. I have gotten to meet so many of my lovely peers and fellow ambassadors through this job. Additionally, as a pillar of the Falmouth University community I’ve had the opportunity to meet many locals as well as people from all over the world looking to study at Falmouth; it is a truly unique experience to be able to speak to people from so many different backgrounds.
Get to Know Campus
This role is perfect for someone who is eager to dive deeper into the ins and outs of campus. Being an ambassador is a great opportunity to learn about other departments and about campus itself. Every new ambassador will be given campus tour training, whether it’s on the Penryn or the Falmouth campus, where they’ll learn the tour route as well as bits of information about all of the facilities. When you’re studying on campus, it’s easy to overlook all of the details around you, but as an ambassador you learn to take them all in.
Gain Valuable Skills
As a student it’s sometimes difficult to find the time for things like work experience, but as an ambassador you can gain experience and still prioritise your studies. There are so many valuable skills to be learnt and improved upon working as a Student Ambassador. You will test your people skills, learn how to lead groups of people on tours, improve your communication skills, and flex your creative thinking on projects with the digital content team.
Have Fun
The final, and definitely the most important, reason is that it’s fun! There is so much variety in the shifts available that you will never be bored. Some examples of jobs I’ve done in the past include giving tours, making videos for the Falmouth University YouTube and TikTok, working at Open Days, and being involved in a photoshoot with the content team. There is also the opportunity for bigger shifts lasting over a few days, such as Welcome Weekend and Graduation. And the best part is that I get to pick which of these jobs I want to be involved in!
