Staff and students recently convened to celebrate the achievements of Student Mentors at this year's Student Mentor Awards.

The Student Mentor Awards aim to commend the outstanding contributions that Student Mentors make to the University. Supporting first year students as they become accustomed to university life, alongside their own personal studies and extra-curricular activities, is a major commitment.

Owen Martin, Student Mentor Scheme Assistant, said: "The annual Student Mentor Scheme recognises Falmouth's volunteer Student Mentors for their excellent work supporting their colleagues through university.

"Giving their time through the summer to contact incoming students, and enhancing their experience after they arrive, the team of Student Mentors build a wonderful community on campus."

The categories ranged from awards for individual excellence and team efforts such as the Outstanding Senior Mentor Award and the Student Choice Award, handed to the winners by Chancellor Dawn French. The awards themselves were designed and produced by current Sustainable Product Design students Sibyl Beaumont and Drew Spathaky, assisted by Cornish graduate Josh Trathen.

The main bulk of the ceremony was dedicated to recognising all 250 Student Mentors individually, who achieved Gold, Silver, Bronze and Outstanding Contribution certificates.
