After becoming a creative duo while studying on Falmouth’s MA Creative Advertising course, Nicola Bosier and Eleanor Roberts are now working together as junior creatives for the global social-first creative agency, We Are Social.

Working with brands such as Pandora, Adidas, BAFTA and the Carlsberg Group, We Are Social is made of a team of over 1,200 creatives working across four continents, creating engaging social content to help clients reach the right people in a strategic and relevant way.

We chatted with Nicola and Eleanor to learn more about their new role, how their postgraduate degree helped set them up for the industry and the advice they would give for anyone looking to forge a creative career.

Can you tell us more about the Junior Creative role at We Are Social and what it involves? For example, what does a typical day look like for you both?

As junior creatives our role is to support and come up with new ideas for clients. We get to take a range of approaches due to the wide range of clients we deal with. We prepare pitches for clients and work with other team members to get the winning accounts. With We Are Social being the leading social first agency, we need to ensure we’re staying relevant with trends and what’s happening both in person and online.

Our days normally consist of meetings and brainstorming sessions about briefs and upcoming clients. When not in meetings we spend the time working on our briefs and collaborating with those around us, and then in our lunch break we explore all of London’s hidden food gems.

What advice would you give to students looking to start a similar position after university?

Don’t give up. It’s very easy to doubt yourself and your skills but you just need to remember that Rome wasn’t built in a day. Speak to as many people as you can in the industry and keep in touch with your cohort as they may be able to recommend you for something. Book crits are essential and a good way to make connections; be prepared to not always hear what you want but take it as constructive criticism. Always ask for feedback and projects to work on or placements – if you don’t ask you don’t get. But most of all, remember Falmouth has a great alumni network and we are all here to help where we can.

How did your time studying MA Creative Advertising prepare you for this role?

Firstly, it allowed us to join forces and become an award-winning creative advertising duo. It also allowed us to practice creating pitch decks, a skill which is essential in the industry. At Falmouth, we refined our editing, collaboration and presenting skills. Our time as students meant that starting work in the industry didn’t feel like such a huge jump as we were well prepared not only for interviews but for working on client briefs.

How did you find your experience studying on the MA Creative Advertising course?

We really enjoyed our experience during our MA. The beach being close by was always a bonus and we were able to make close friendships with people who we can now rely on in industry. It’s nice to have people who you can talk to about things especially while job hunting. Our lecturers have also been a huge part in motivating us to strive for success; they were always willing to put aside time to help with anything (even after we had left Falmouth) which we will always be grateful for.

It’s so important when you’re at university to just enjoy yourself and take all the opportunities that come your way. Listen to advice that’s given but also stay true to yourself and the right job will come your way. You got this!
