Esports graduate secures placement with global car brand
25 August 2026
After a chance conversation at Falmouth University’s Games Expo, BA(Hons) Esports & Livestreaming graduate Raven Weston spent three days on a paid placement in Gothenburg filming for Zeekr, a global car brand. What started as a quick chat about camera work led to a job capturing content for one of the brand's biggest promotional pushes.
We caught up with Raven to talk about the experience, what it taught them about working with clients and where they see their career heading next.
How did the placement come about?
I met creative learning agency Ignition at the Games Expo, who then brought me onboard for the Zeekr project. I mentioned my experience in camera work and creating content, which eventually led to them reaching out to me a few weeks later with the offer to do videography and build up my portfolio.
What were you employed to do in your time there?
I was employed as a freelance videographer, following along with the touring groups and capturing clips of the event to later be edited into promotional material. We stayed for three days, so we only saw a little bit of Gothenburg, but it was lovely nonetheless!

What skills from your course did you find yourself leaning on most during the placement?
During the placement I found myself leaning on my camera skills, finding suitable angles, as well as pulling from my practice as a ‘producer’: talking with client representatives, asking questions and choosing what framing or situations would be best to capture to help the client's image.
How did it feel seeing the final video out in the world once it was published?
Upon seeing the finished video I felt really proud! It was amazing to see something I helped shoot come to life, and it really sparked my drive to search for and create more within this line of work.
What did this experience teach you about working directly with a client and their expectations?
While the atmosphere was really relaxed, I did enjoy working within bounds because I knew what the client expected and how they wanted their vision to come to life. It gave me something to search for in shots and amongst the people attending.
Has the placement changed how you think about the kind of work you want to do now that you've graduated?
It has made me consider different avenues, yes! Initially I wanted to go into events, whether stage producing or community management, but after this, I found I really enjoy the camera work side of events; work that's more focused on the press and media teams.
