3rd year Graphic Design student Lydia Otway is shortlisted for her entry to the Fountain of Hygiene:Sanitiser Design Competition, hosted by Bompas & Parr and the Design Museum. The competition is raising funds for the British Red Cross. It is currently live online and you can vote for your favourite!

We talked to Lydia about her entry:

How did you get involved with the competition?
I got involved with the competition after seeing it advertised on the studio, Bompas & Parr’s Instagram. At that moment in time, I was feeling very uninspired. Everything I was working on felt irrelevant. The competition felt like a wonderful opportunity to help spread a message that is so current, as well as help The British Red Cross.

What inspired your entry?
Well it is a little bit of a blur, but it all stemmed from a moment laughing with my house mates. Hand sanitiser is a serious topic, I wanted to change this stereotype. Adding some fun to a serious topic, spreading the message through humour.

What advice would you give a student considering entering a competition like this?
GO FOR IT! Don’t be afraid to try something new!

Check out Lydia’s entry on the competition website (you can vote by clicking the heart on the top of the entry).
