What does it mean to be ‘seaworthy’?
That is the question at the heart of Booker-nominated author and Falmouth creative writing lecturer Wyl Menmuir’s latest writing project.
Taking inspiration from his experiences of calmness when sailing, Wyl’s new book Seaworthy will explore how we can all become more ‘seaworthy’ day to day to better navigate the choppy waters of modern life.
Due to be released by Picador in 2028, Wyl’s immersive research phase for his new book is seeing him restore a 1962 wooden Wayfarer at the National Maritime Museum Cornwall (NMMC), drawing in collaborators from across the University – including Head of Art, Duncan Cameron and Head of Photography, Oliver Udy – as well as creatives and makers from across the county.
Join us behind the scenes on the Seaworthy project in this video shot at NMMC to learn more about Wyl’s inspiration, ambitious plans for sailing to the Isles of Scilly, and why collaboration is a superpower at Falmouth University.
