Think indie: Filmmaking, freedom and the cinematic creative voice at Falmouth University
Falmouth’s long history of treating film as an art form has shaped a culture that values innovation, self-expression and artistic exploration, with more in common with the spirit of indie film rather than purely industry pipeline training. In our MA provision, whether online or on campus, in our specialist courses partnered with Action Xtreme and Gorton Studios, or in our generalist MA provision, filmmakers and academics work alongside partners to develop original cinematic voices. In this one hour masterclass, we’ll talk through our 360 approach to film development - focusing on features, we’ll walk through how our students have worked from idea to pitch in the autumn term, and are working on outline to script, and script to screen, highlighting a collaborative culture where students work closely with peers and staff across roles and disciplines — much like indie film sets operate as tight-knit, multifunctional teams.
