Virtual event
MA Communication Design’s deeply diagnostic ethos values personal experience as a way to foster empathetic working processes. Autoethnography – designing from and through self-reflection – encourages an understanding of oneself in connection to broader societal contexts.
This masterclass examines autoethnography as theory and method, encouraging attendees to consider their own viewpoints, experiences and biases as productive potential for communication design projects. After overviewing a variety of autoethnographic case studies, attendees will use prompts to examine their own perspectives, routines and working processes.
Finally, we will consider how some of these individual insights might also allow us to construct communications that speak to the nuanced experiences of others.
The session is ideal for anyone interested in communication design, graphic design, visual communication, authorial design and autoethnography.
