Technician

Tom helps to provide technical support, demonstration and supervision within the 3D Workshops as part of Falmouth Campus Technical Resources. He works across a wide range of areas such as mould-making, casting, metalwork and woodwork. Tom is currently focusing on fine metal casting where he supports the Investment Casting process.

After completing his degree in fine art sculpture, Tom worked alongside master craftsmen for G&H Studios. Over his four years with them he developed his skills as a mould-maker and caster. Also during this time Tom became increasingly interested in education. He trained as a secondary school teacher in design & technology and has worked in schools across the West Country.

Tom's role as a technician at Falmouth requires a strong focus on health and safety. He is a fire warden and first aider and has up to date training across the health and safety spectrum. He also has had training in the use and maintenance of workshop equipment through the Design and Technology Association as well as specific external training on specialist equipment.

Tom's own practice ranges from small scale jewellery to life sized figurative sculpture. His work informs his teaching at Falmouth and vice versa. He has been involved with galleries and local art weeks across Cornwall, Devon and Somerset.
