Gareth Farr

Senior Lecturer

Gareth trained as an actor at the Webber Douglas Academy of Dramatic Art and went on to work at the RSC, Royal Court, Young Vic, West End and has appeared in many television programmes. He is also a playwright and in 2011 Gareth won the prestigious Bruntwood Prize for Playwriting with his debut play Britannia Waves the Rules which was produced at the Royal Exchange Theatre in Manchester and was later remounted for a nationwide tour. Britannia Waves The Rules has since been produced in Sydney Australia and has been studied at GCSE in the UK. Gareth’s second play The Quiet House, was produced by Birmingham Rep and Park Theatre, London in 2016. His third play Shandyland is programmed to be produced by Northern Stage in spring 2021. Each of his plays have been published by Nick Hern books. He is also developing several projects for television. 

Gareth began teaching acting in Higher Education at ArtsEd in London in 2009. He stayed at ArtsEd for ten years becoming the Head of Acting and later the Director of the School of Acting, where he had the pleasure of teaching and developing the careers of many successful actors.

    Gareth's primary research interests lie within two specific areas:

    • The Working Class - issues experienced within the British working class over the past three decades.
    • Fertility and infertility -  issues experienced by those undertaking or experiencing fertility treatment.

    This research is framed within his work as a playwright and theatre maker.
