Course Leader, BA(Hons) Fashion Marketing

Emma graduated from Ravensbourne with a BA(Hons) in Fashion Design, where she and a colleague were awarded the opportunity to work for Harvey Nichols. Based in Hong Kong, with the then new owners Dickson Concepts, this gave her extraordinary insight into the fledgling luxury fashion market in China and South East Asia. This experience then led to a move into brand/retail development and visual merchandising, consulting for companies such as Tiffany & Co, Burberry, Shanghai Tang and Lane Crawford, and promoting and launching new stores in China for Givenchy and Kenzo. After seven years in the Asia market, Emma returned to the UK, focusing on putting all that industry know-how into practice, working for brands such as Jaeger, M&S, Pringle of Scotland in retail and brand development, eventually before landing a Creative Management role at Arcadia Group. The move to high-street fashion, and the fact that Arcadia at the time, was a main player in the market, meant a fast-paced, dynamic environment in which to operate. The creative, PR and marketing teams, developed seasonal campaigns, as well as high profile projects such as the launch of the 'Kardashian Kollection'.

As Course Leader for Fashion Marketing, Emma's role draws on 20+ years of experience as a creative in the fashion industry. The course reflects current commercial and collaborative practice with an emphasis on the teaching of design principles, marketing strategies and communication processes in the context of the global marketplace. As a part of the Fashion and Textiles Institute, Emma and the team are strong advocates in the role that marketing can play in the environmental, ethical and moral challenges of our time. By its very nature its purpose is to communicate, this puts it in the prime position to call into question the fashion system and to participate in the shift in behaviour change. The course embeds the complex issues into its teaching and allows students to form opinions and challenge the industry and its audience.
