Falmouth students go behind the scenes at Boardmasters 2025
06 August 2025

Creative Events Management BA(Hons) students were recently given exclusive behind-the-scenes access to the Boardmasters 2025 site during the final days of festival set-up.
Boardmasters is a five-day surf and music festival set on the cliffs of Watergate Bay, Newquay and is currently preparing to host headliners such as Raye, The Prodigy, Wet Leg and London Grammar later this week.
With ‘access all areas’ passes, the students explored key operational spaces such as the main stage, artist lounges, green rooms and the central control room—where all service providers and partners collaborate to deliver the event.
They were given detailed briefings from the senior management team, who offered real-world insight into the planning and logistics behind hosting 65,000 people, including both attendees and staff.
This unforgettable visit has sparked fresh ideas and ambitions for many students, especially those aiming to build careers in the dynamic festival events industry after university.
Reflecting on the trip, student Lana Jones said: “Visiting the Boardmasters site was a truly valuable experience. It was inspiring to meet so many of the key individuals involved in running the festival and to gain an insight into the wide range of roles within the events industry.”
She added: “I found it particularly interesting to learn more about how the festival works with the local community in order to build a strong relationship between Boardmasters and the residents of Newquay.”
Course Leader Matt Kirby told us: “We strongly believe that getting our students out meeting and talking to the events industry is invaluable. Boardmasters is one of the biggest events that takes place in the Southwest, so this ‘behind the scenes’ experience has been invaluable to our students.”
