MA Marketing and Digital Communications student Lauren Woods is making strides in industry while she studies. She’s currently the Marketing Intern for vintage up-cycling and upholstery business Polliander and will soon be Digital Marketer for networking community Business Women In. We caught up with Lauren to find out more about her course and how she’s balancing pursuing her career alongside her master’s.

Why did you choose to study Marketing and Digital Communications with Falmouth?

I graduated from Falmouth in 2018 in BA (Hons) Business Entrepreneurship. I really enjoyed the learning by doing style of teaching Falmouth offered and being creatively free to step out of my comfort zone to explore the areas of business I enjoyed the most. I found my passion for marketing and I knew I wanted to explore the subject closer alongside Entrepreneurship.

I love the flexibility my course offers. I can pursue my degree whilst gaining practical experience within the industry to strengthen my skills and knowledge.

What are you enjoying most about the online MA?

I love the flexibility my course offers. I can pursue my degree whilst gaining practical experience within the industry to strengthen my skills and knowledge. Falmouth’s flexibility also means I can study at my own pace; I have really been enjoying having the time to dig deeper into the areas I am most fascinated by.

The course content is highly engaging and relevant to implement into the real world. Each week my thoughts are challenged in the discussions and webinars with my tutors and fellow students; it’s so rewarding to get other people's perspectives alongside the learning material.

What are you up to now?

I am currently a Marketing Intern for a vintage up-cycling and upholstery business called Polliander. I’m assisting in building their digital marketing presence and defining their brand. I am also soon to become a Digital Marketer for a networking community called Business Women In. In this role, I will firstly be looking at new technology solutions and creating my own workshop content and marketing this to support people starting up their own businesses.

I couldn’t recommend Falmouth enough. I can truly see my development as a marketer since I started the course.

During my undergraduate studies at Falmouth, I also set up my own small Cornish gifting business, which I plan to continue to grow in my spare time. I would love to one day support local Cornish businesses with their marketing.

What advice would you give to a prospective student?

I couldn’t recommend Falmouth enough. I can truly see my development as a marketer since I started the course.

Although studying online has amazing advantages, it is so important to remember to still connect and collaborate with your class like you would if you were on campus. I would advise creating an online space to come together to chat, share thoughts, and even discuss any worries you all may have. It really has been one of the best things to connect with people and I have made some great friends from it!

If you are excited by marketing then absolutely go for it, you will not be disappointed.
