Catwalk Calling for Fashion Student

Shooting catwalk models at top-end shows is the dream for many seeking to enter the fashion industry after graduating.

But Nicholas Kristiansen, a second year Fashion Photography student, has been chosen multiple times for such an opportunity, whilst still studying for his degree.

His most recent venture into the bright lights of these glamorous events was when he received an offer to cover the Mercedes Benz Fashion Week in October 2017, following his work experience for Fashion Scout London.

Nicholas explained: "I had applied to work for the digital team at Fashion Scout London in February, and got accepted to work at some catwalk shows happening throughout the days. It was seriously hectic but a lot of fun, and it really gave me a taste for the industry.

"I then received a call out of nowhere from Annabel, the digital editor for Fashion Scout, who asked me if I could take some days off to work at the end of October. Two weeks later, I was on my way up to London with my suitcase, preparing to fly to Sri Lanka."

The responsibilities came thick and fast for Nicholas, as he was sent to capture every look that went down the catwalk. At the end of each day, he edited his shots and handed them over to Annabel, who would then post them onto the social media channels. Such high expectations and unique experiences left a big impression on Nicholas.

He reflected: "It was amazing to see all of the creative designers that are based in Sri Lanka, the event was a mixture of artisanal craft and catwalk shows.

"I also got the opportunity to visit several weavers around Gampaha, where artisans weave in the comfort of their own homes in the jungle. Seeing all the hard work that is put into the collections gave me a profound respect for the artisans."
