Senior Lecturer

Tom works with photography and film through image-making, curation, writing and teaching. He graduated with a first-class degree in Photography from University of the Arts London, a master’s degree with distinction in Visual Anthropology from Goldsmiths University, and qualified as a teacher (PGCE) at Bath Spa University.

He previously founded and directed Unveil’d, an arts organisation that championed contemporary photography via a programme of exhibitions, workshops and awards with internationally recognised and emerging photographers.

Tom’s personal work explores relationships between identity and place, interweaving ideas around tradition, pilgrimage, belonging and change. His broader research focuses on visual-anthropological methodology, using experimental and ethnographic filmmaking and multi-modal methods.

Tom also works with community groups, schools and arts organisations to deliver and collaborate on participatory projects. He co-founded and leads an educational programme delivered between the BA (Hons) Photography course at Falmouth University and Tate St Ives, providing students with a rich experience of working in a professional environment alongside an established artist practitioner.
