Richard Milligan
Senior Lecturer: Game Animation
Richard is an Animator, Developer and Lecturer who joined Falmouth University in 2016. After spending many years working in TV and Film Animation, he made the transition into games and has never looked back. In recent years he has consulted, rigged and Animated on several indie games, always bringing lessons learned back into the classroom.
As an educator, he is a firm believer that passion leads to success, and enjoyment ensures longevity. As such, his primary objective in the classroom is to create a welcoming and engaging environment.
Richard’s fascination with all forms of movement makes animation an ideal career for him. He places embodiment—learning through experience—at the core of his practice and strives to create this space in class. As an avid martial artist, dancer, acrobat, and just about anything that gets him out of his seat, he approaches learning as an active process where theory and practice are inseparable.

Research Interests
Research interests and expertise
Richards scholarly pursuits are deeply rooted in the concepts of embodied epistemology and mindfulness, with a particular emphasis on attentive presence. His work explores the dynamic relationship between art, technology, and embodiment. Through his research, Richard aims to investigate how we interact with and perceive technology. He is dedicated to exploring new ways of engaging with digital environments that prioritise human experience and encourage physical activity.
