Jane Ziemacki
Senior Technician
After graduating from the MA in Fine Art/ Printmaking at Wimbledon School of Art, Jane moved to Cornwall and took up a part time teaching post at Cornwall College, St Austell, where she taught art and design on a variety of BTEC courses. In 2000 she joined Falmouth University as a full time technician supporting the printmaking element of the foundation course. Since becoming a senior technician she has been delivering workshops in all aspects of printmaking to groups and individual students from foundation and graphic design, and has helped to develop safer and more environmentally sound workshop practices at Wellington Terrace. Her subject specialisms include screen print, all aspects of etching (including aquatint and dry point techniques), lino and wood cut and various different approaches to mono print. Working for the university for 14 years has enabled Jane to develop workshops and demonstrations that engage students with the technical possibilities within each print area, encouraging the exploration of each process, helping students to work safely, independently and autonomously within the print workshop environment.
As a practicing artist/ printmaker, process plays an important part of Jane's own work. Current works use a variety of mono print techniques inspired by contrasting stories in the media. These first mono prints are cut, re-assembled, collaged, copied and transferred to screens and reprinted, making new prints from which new narratives can be derived.
