Lecturer, Fine Art BA(Hons)

Elizabeth Tomos has been working in Higher Education since 2010 and is currently working as a Lecturer in Fine Art at Falmouth University having joined the institution in September 2020. She previously taught at the University of Northampton where she led the Integrated Foundation Year in the Arts (2017-2020), a programme to support students in accessing higher education programmes in the Arts faculty. From 2015 to 2017 Elizabeth undertook a two-year secondment to act as a Learning Designer to lead on the implementation of a university wide pedagogical approach called Active Blended Learning. During which time she was also responsible for a university wide qualitative study into student experiences of the transition period. During her time at Carmarthen School of Art (2010-2013) Elizabeth taught into the Foundation Diploma in Art & Design as both a Contextual Studies and Fine Art lecturer. She also taught Contextual Studies across all the Art and Design degrees available at the college, as well as the Contextual Studies provision for the Extended Diploma in Fashion & Clothing. Elizabeth acted as course leader for the BA (Hons) Multidisciplinary in Art & Design and the BA (Hons) Fine Art Contemporary Practice.

Elizabeth has a background in both the visual and performing arts which she draws on to underpin her Perform//Print practice. Perform//Print is a hybrid method of making art which draws on the techniques, methods, and processes of printmaking and collides them with live and performance art practices. Elizabeth has exhibited nationally and internationally including at Performance Art International Bergen (2023), Performance Studies International, South Africa (2023), Trans- States: The Art of Deception, University of Northampton (2022), Draw to Perform Festival in Brighton (2022), Cozens Street Studios and Sydney Contemporary in Australia (2019), MK Calling at MK Gallery in Milton Keynes (2020), and as part of Impact11's (International Printmaking conference) virtual exhibition hosted during the pandemic by Hong Kong Open Printshop (2021). She is also director and curator of Trans-states, a community interest company dedicated to the scholarship of contemporary occulture and esotericism.

Research Interests

Research interests and expertise

My research centres around performance and live art practices, in particular their intersection with drawing and printmaking. My artistic research addresses the connection between embodied and esoteric practices and wider posthuman and ecological concerns. Having operated in higher education for most of my career, I am obviously also deeply concerned with pedagogy for creativity. As a director of Trans- States, we seek to develop scholarship in the intersections between five core areas of scholarship: esotericism and contemporary occulture, pedagogy, creativity, ecology and technology.
