Digital Dissent
Performance, Technology, and Resistance in the Post-Truth Age
This Research & Knowledge Exchange Doctoral Project brief summarises our priority areas of research interest under the heading of: Digital Dissent: Performance, Technology, and Resistance in the Post-Truth Age.
Project brief details
This doctoral research project investigates how digital and live performance practices can respond to the challenges of misinformation, disinformation, and malinformation. As societies navigate the complexities of AI-generated deception, online misinformation, and the erosion of trust in public information, this project explores how creative technologies can foster critical media literacy and public resilience.
Through experimental, practice-led research, the project will examine how immersive and participatory performance can deconstruct and counter digital deception. It will also interrogate the ethical, aesthetic, and technological dimensions of misinformation through both high-end and DIY methodologies. Emphasis will be placed on community engagement, accessible digital tools, and cross-sector partnerships to develop scalable interventions.
The project will benefit from access to volumetric capture, virtual production, and interdisciplinary expertise, and is situated within a broader research programme focused on digital ethics, performance, and media studies.
Strategic alignment
Hosted by the Centre for Blended Realities, this project aligns with institutional research priorities in digital performance, misinformation, and creative technologies. It supports public engagement, interdisciplinary knowledge exchange, and practice-led innovation.
