Megan Sandalls graduated Interior Design in 2018. She is now a Senior Interior Designer at Iroka, an Interior Design Studio which designs and develops some of the most exclusive properties Cornwall has to offer. Projects at Iroka lie within the commercial and residential sector, where there is collaboration alongside architects and property developers throughout the South West and UK.
‘Iroka Interiors has gained a national reputation as the South West’s Interior Designer, but not many people know everything they have to offer. Iroka strive to give each client a unique and personalised experience, each design is organic and driven by the client.’
We caught up with Megan about her time at Falmouth and what she has been doing since she graduated:
What did you most enjoy about your time at Falmouth University?
I thrived from the creative freedom we were given on the course and I enjoyed every aspect of life in the studio. I was drawn to living beside the sea, which is why I have chosen to pursue my design career in Cornwall. Albeit small, there is a great design community down in Cornwall that is ever evolving and fresh.
What are you up to now work wise?
I am the design lead on an extremely exciting development of super homes, located in one of the most desirable and sought after locations in St. Ives. Built over four storeys, the development features vast open living spaces, ultra-contemporary interiors, and an infinity pool carved into the cliff, overlooking the panoramic sea views. Excitingly, the property has been shortlisted into the 2020 International Property Awards.
What advice would you give to prospective students?
To choose a course that you have a real passion for, the Interior Design course at Falmouth offers a range of amazing opportunities to its students that are unique and invaluable. Guest lectures from industry professionals, workshops with established and high profile practitioners, a mentoring scheme, an IT suite and live projects, to name just a few!
A project I have worked on - Porthminster Watch, St.Ives, Cornwall
The concept for this space was to frame the expansive views out to Godrevy lighthouse and beyond. Within this project I have designed many bespoke elements; for example working alongside our partners at Saba Italia to commission the seating for this space (see project image below).
