BA(Hons) Fashion Styling & Art Direction student Jack Stead says the freedom the course gives him to interpret "art direction" in his own way has let him follow his own path while still meeting the brief, picking up technical skills in areas like lighting he never expected to learn along the way.
That freedom has produced three fashion films during his time at Falmouth: "While We Can", built around a poem he wrote himself, "Sojourn", a piece about fathers and sons, and his latest, "Two Chairs", following two boys reconciling after time apart.
"My name's Jack Stead, and I study Fashion Art Direction and Styling.
"The course really spoke to me. It included subjects like fashion film, which is what I was interested in. I've made three. The first one is called 'While We Can.' It was sort of an all-encompassing piece with a poem that I wrote. And then 'Sojourn', which means to visit a place temporarily, a piece about fathers and sons. The latest film is called 'Two Chairs', and that follows two boys reconciling after being apart for a while.
"I've learnt so much about tech and lighting and everything. I wouldn't have ever been able to do that.
"The freedom the term art direction gives you has allowed me to just be completely open to anything and has allowed me to just go down my own path and it still meet the criteria.
"The people I've met down here has been the biggest thing, and I've met lifelong friends. The biggest learning thing has just been growing up and maturing over the past three years."
