Falmouth student shares short stories online and on air

From having her short story read aloud on the radio to being shortlisted for multiple awards, Creative Writing BA(Hons) (Online) student Annaliese Crocker is celebrating seeing her writing being recognised around the country.
Annaliese began studying on Falmouth’s online Creative Writing BA so that she could enhance her writing craft in a way that suits her lifestyle, such as being able to fit her coursework around a busy family life and part-time job. Now, the stories she has crafted since starting Falmouth’s course just last year have been recognised for several awards. Annaliese’s flash fiction, entitled Reflections, was shortlisted for Victory Radio’s 50th Anniversary Short Story Competition, which led to her story being read live on air. The story centres around a woman who is removing herself from a toxic marriage and discovering her self-worth in the process.
Annaliese’s short story titled The Shack, a horror story based on a grieving mother who takes a terrifying journey to hell, has also been recognised and shortlisted for the Hull Short Story Prize 2025. The story has been accepted for publication with Flash Phantoms, an online platform that shares micro horror fiction.
When asked why she chose to study Creative Writing at Falmouth, Annaliese shared: “I really wanted to push myself creatively and learn new skills, such as post-digital writing, which I can transfer into a career after graduation. I already feel like I’m headed in the right direction!”
She added: “I would urge anyone, young or old, who has a passion for storytelling and the written word to enrol on Falmouth’s Creative Writing BA. The modules are inspiring and the support and encouragement I have received since starting are second to none.
“I’m excited about what the future may hold, and my head is full of creative ideas that Falmouth has helped conjure; I can’t wait to get them out in the world and in front of readers.”
