Lynette Yiadom-Boakye's exhibition, Fly in the League of the Night, houses around 70 works created from 2003 to the present day. The most extensive survey of her career to date, the exhibition will be at Tate Britain from 24 November until 26 February 2023

Lynette Yiadom-Boakye is a painter and writer known for her large-scale figurative oil paintings. Since completing her Fine Art studies at Falmouth School of Art in 2000, she has been nominated for many prestigious awards including The Turner Prize.

It was during her time studying at Falmouth that Lynette discovered she was less interested in making portraits of people and more in the act of painting. This ties into the fictitious nature of her work, conjuring figures from her imagination whilst placing emphasis on colour, composition or a particular direction of the light.

Intended to be both familiar and mysterious, Lynette’s works invite viewers to impose their own interpretations and question both representation and identity.
