Dr Lee Miller will join Falmouth University as Head of Postgraduate Research and Associate Professor in May 2022.

Over the past two decades, Dr Lee Miller has built a career in arts education and performer training, working to support undergraduate, postgraduate taught and doctoral students across the contemporary arts. He has worked in multiple UK universities, running undergraduate and postgraduate programmes, and has undertaken freelance work in Finland, Portugal and Sweden.

The practitioner-scholar has published extensively in the field of practice-research, for which he has become internationally recognised. Today, Lee is interested in the space between bodies in performance, especially in the affective gap between audience and performer. He is committed to interrogating the academic voice, and in exploring the role of collaboration in the ‘generation of knowledge’.

The work done [...] to build a positive and enriching postgraduate research community has always impressed me.

Asked what drew him to Falmouth University, Lee said: “I have worked with colleagues from Falmouth on a variety of projects over the past decade, and always appreciated the rigour of our exchanges. The work done by the team to build a positive and enriching postgraduate research community has always impressed me.”

Lee is keen to develop this community in dialogue with the existing student body, saying he is “excited to work with existing students, hear about projects from experts, and those ideas that they are passionate about.

“I find supporting postgraduate researchers incredibly rewarding, and I look forward to getting a better sense of how I might contribute to the existing community of scholars.”
