About the Exhibition
Join us for an exhibition gathering work from three MA courses on our Falmouth Campus; MA Communication Design, Fine Art, Illustration: Authorial Practice and featuring a diverse range of practices channelling a broad spectrum of research areas and inspirations. Expect drawing, painting, sculpture, digital & moving image and more all curated in three distinct group exhibitions.

Title: Georgia Gendall: I Got Worms!

Georgia’s multidisciplinary practice spans sculpture, performance, video, writing and participatory work. Centring on themes of ecological entanglement and the rural body; Georgia’s work is often absurd and precarious and relies on risk, chance, negotiation or collaboration to subvert, celebrate, challenge or disrupt interspecies dependencies, the environments we co-inhabit and the systems we exist within. Georgia is the founder of Falmouth Worm Charming Championships: an annual grassroots community worm charming day. Georgia also runs Allotment Club: a rural social project space on an allotment in Cornwall dedicated to fostering interdisciplinary exchange between local growers and artists. Georgia co runs Stokkøyart; a site specific artist residency on the small rural Norwegian island of Stokkøya.

Title: Caroline Pedlar: Stepping into Stories

Caroline is an artist, illustrator, and educator. She has exhibited and co-curated numerous fine art shows around the UK and taken part in illustration exhibitions in Italy, China, Russia, and UE. Being a project led illustrator Caroline’s output depends on the context of the commission, recently varying from illustrations for an international health and climate campaign for Net Positive at Exeter University, designing a teaching aid for Nystagmus - a national charity, and designing and illustrating maps and market posters for the town she lives in. The majority of her work however is in illustrating 60 children's picture books, sold all over the world. She has most recently ventured into writing and illustrating her own stories, including writing for theatre and scriptwriting, while also pitching new stories to publishers. Caroline will talk about her ACE funded year of focusing on her own illustrated stories. Caroline also runs various Masterclasses in art and Illustration around the county and currently works as an illustration lecturer at Arts University Plymouth.

Following a career working for public art institutions and commercial galleries in Australia, London and Cornwall, Lucy Ward now supports artists and creative organisations with project management, mentorship, event delivery and fundraising. She is also the co-founder and director of ALMA Artspace CIC, a not-for-profit arts organisation and project space in Newquay. Established in 2019 as an online space for us to talk about things we were interested in, ALMA now presents an accessible programme of exhibitions, events, workshops, live music and pop-up projects throughout the year. Working predominantly with Cornwall-based artists and makers, we are particularly interested in providing our community in Newquay with access to contemporary art, ideas and experiences.
