The language that artists choose to title their artworks can reveal, obscure, mis-direct, seduce or undermine. Sometimes all at once. Titles get up to all sorts.
In this Masterclass, MA Fine Art Online Course Leader Josie Cockram considers the title as a starting point, emissary and intermediary between an artwork and the world it enters into. She considers literary fiction, grammar and rhetoric as source material for artists as they generate words to accompany the extra-linguistic languages of objects, sounds, images and gestures.
