Senior Careers Consultant

BSc Hons, PGDip

Role summary

In my role I head up the Careers Advisory Service for Falmouth University; a service that offers one to one guidance to students and graduates no matter when they graduated. We also offer presentations on employability to all undergraduate and postgraduate courses. Within the team we have two Careers Consultants, each one with a responsibility for a particular school. In my role I am responsible for Media and Performance. Also within our team we run a careers website with information on opportunities, enterprise and job hunting and we also run a well stocked careers library at both campuses. As a team we are also responsible for the Destination of Leavers Survey and we have a new role of Employer Liaison where we encourage employers to come and present to students on campus or offer us vacancies on our website.

Previous experience

I completed my training in careers guidance at Reading University in 1992 and got my first job as a careers adviser in Portsmouth working in schools and colleges in the city. Before starting at Falmouth in 2002 I was working as a careers adviser running a number of lifeskills training programmes for young people not in work, education or training across West Hampshire.
