Fashion and Textiles IFY Lecturer and Module Leader

Fashion and Textiles Foundation Year Lecturer and Module Leader, specialising in Knitted Textile Design. 10 years professional experience in fashion and textiles with work selling to brands such as Marc Jacobs, Calvin Klein, Ralph Lauren and Gant. As well as working for a range of studios and companies including Collection XIIX in New York, Sophie Steller, A3 Knit, Netjets, ASOS, New Look and also creating the official mechanise for a variety of BBC programs. Work ranging from textile design, garments, accessories, CAD, fashion photography post production; mainly in retouching and preparing shoots and most recently developing technical textiles for medical purposes.

I am passionate about creating structures and working with textile machinery to develop new and innovative stitches. Both with Domestic and Dubied machines and more recently with my own Stoll computerised knitting machine. My research is focused on producing perfect fit garments through structure with the view to replace the need for unsustainable synthetic stretch yarns. I aim to create garments cherished by the owner increasing the longevity of the garment from the customers perspective and challenging fast fashion cycles. I create auxetic materials and use the structure as inspiration for my stitches as well as creating highly engineered stitch patterns, using the properties of each stitch to work with the different body parts and create the perfect movement and fit.

Research Interests

Research interests and expertise

My research is centred around creating innovative stitches and structures to solve issues related to medical conditions as well as fast fashion and sustainability. I work with auxetics in my textiles to create perfect fit garments and replace the need for unsustainable synthetic stretch yarns. As well as working as the textile designer for both aiKNIT and upLYFT, we use technical textiles to create solutions for people with issues such as mobility.
