How can emotional durable strategies, enable higher longevity in domestic electronic products
Abstract
This research explores how emotionally durable design (EDD) can extend the lifespan of consumer electronics within a circular economy (CE) framework. Premature obsolescence drives e-waste and resource extraction, yet current strategies often prioritise recycling over cultivating lasting user–product bonds. By reframing the designer’s role as curator of enduring relationships, this study examines how emotional attachment, care, and repair behaviours can reduce discard rates.
