Prohibited items at all Graduation venues 

To ensure a safe and enjoyable experience for all graduates, guests and staff, bag searches will take place outside the Ceremony Hall on the day.  

If any prohibited items from the list below are found, they will be held securely and can be collected after the ceremony. Thank you for your understanding and cooperation. 

  • Large bags or suitcases – One small bag per person is permitted after inspection, for dietary, medical, or childcare needs (e.g., medications, baby food, diapers). 
  • Weapons of any kind – Including pocketknives and blades.  
  • Laser pointers and noisemakers – Including bells, air horns and whistles. 
  • Alcoholic or outside beverages – Water is permitted. 
  • Signs, banners, flags, placards and pamphlets intended for distribution. 
  • Items with offensive or threatening language or imagery – Including decorated mortar boards.  
  • Aerosols, cans, or liquids. 
  • Confetti, glitter, rice, petals or stickers. - Please do not throw or scatter any items at graduates in the Ceremony Hall.  
  • Balloons – These must be returned to your car, or left in a secure location outside the Ceremony Hall. 
  • Sticks or poles – Including selfie sticks and professional camera equipment. Walking aids are permitted.  
  • Umbrellas – Please leave these outside the venue, to be collected on exit.  
  • Any other items that could be considered dangerous, disruptive or a nuisance to guests – Including but not limited to drones, speakers, ring lights, flags, etc.  

Reminder: Please share this information with any guests attending with you to help ensure a smooth and safe celebration for all.
